The Icelandic Yule Lads are the sons of the trolls Grýla and Leppalúði. They come down from the mountains, one each of the thirteen nights before Christmas bringing children small treats In the days of yore however, they were anything but nice. Instead of bringing treats, they came to scare peple and steal what was most precious to them, their food.
No. 6 is Askasleikir (Bowl Licker) the last of the kitchen lurkers. He's into bowls, because they remind him of the good ole' days when people ate from wooden containers called askur, which he used to snatch when leftovers were put out for the cats and dogs. Now with dishwashers in most houses he's struggling to find a nice bowl to lick, so on the evening of December 16th, just leave the dishes until morning.
