The Icelandic Yule Lads are the sons of the trolls Grýla and Leppalúði. They come down from the mountains, one each of the thirteen nights before Christmas bringing children small treats In the days of yore however, they were anything but nice. Instead of bringing treats, they came to scare peple and steal what was most precious to them, their food.
Today's Yule Lad, the 12th in line, is Ketkrókur. Ketkrókur is a smart guy and a troll of impeccable taste who doesn't fool around with burnt leftovers and ladels. He goes straight for the good stuff - the Christmas meal itself, the smoked lamb. And he won't be content with just a small taste. No, he will take it all, so better guard the smoked lamb on December 23rd!
