Mother of thyme is a native species common in all regions of the countries. The foliage is fragrant and both leaves and flowers can be used as herbs or in herbal tea. It is a very pretty garden plant, suited to rock gardens, stone walls and paved areas where there is enough sun. It needs a fairly sunny position to flower well and grows best in sandy or gritty, well drained soil.
