The Primula genus is so large, that it has been divided into sections to group similar species together. Auricula belongs to the auricula section which all have leathery, often farinose leaves and large, mealy flowers in a variety of colours, most often yellow, pink or purple. Auricula is a variable species, but the flowers are mealy and always yellow, but they can vary from pale to dark yellow. It is a fairly hardy species, but grows best in well drained soil. If the soil is too dense the plants tend to be lifted out of the soil by the frost-thaw cycles throughout winter. This usually doesn't harm the plants and they can be planted deeper in spring. Grows best in full sun, but tolerates part shade.
