Field scabious is native to a few locations in Iceland close to residential areas, which could mean that it was introduced some centuries ago. It is a medium sized perennial with gray-green foliage and lilac-pink flowers that turn lavender as they age. It looks best when grown in poor soil in full sun. It is native to dry grasslands in Europe where it grows in well drained, neutra or alkaline soil.
