English iris has narrow leaves that wither after flowering. The flowers are dark blue-violet. It is often short-lived, but the blue variety has the best chance of being perennial. It grew in my grandmother's garden and she planted bald money (Meum athamanticum) in front of it to fill in the gap after the plant had died back. It is a very nice combination.
