Monkshood is one of the oldest garden plants grown in Iceland. It was often planted in rows like a hedge, because the stalks are sturdy and don't need support. The flowers are dark violet. It is very hardy and very toxic, especially the roots, so it needs to be handled with care and not divided without gloves.
