Foxtail barley is one of the most commonly grown ornamental grasses here in Iceland. It's silky, purple-tinged flower spikes are especially beautiful. Unfortunately it's only annual, but given good conditions it can self seed. It needs a fairly sunny position and well drained soil, but doesn't have other soil requirements. It prefers moderately moist soil, but can tolerate drier conditions.
